The idea of creating a truly sustainable
world and having direct knowledge of our food production
are vital impetuses to the work we do at PG. This
section is a compilation of concepts we feel are important
in the quest of knowing what we are eating and delivering
sustainable human practice.
Food
Movement: We have gone from hunter gathers
to slothful Agri-business in the 10,000 years or so
since domestication. We can do a lot better than that.
PG coined the term "Food Movement" in order
to provide focus on the most important aspect of food
production- healthy and nutritious foodstuff.
Big
Ag: Did you know the majority of the food
we produce in America is cultivated by relatively
few corporations? Is this good or bad? Knowledge is
power.
Food
and Population: We are reaching the threshold
of our ability to produce and deliver food to the
Earth's growing population. With a little imagination
and common sense we can cross this one off the list.
GMO's:
What is a genetically modified organism (GMO), why
are they, an do we need them?
Food
Security: If we can produce enough but cannot
get it there, shouldn't we grow it where it is needed?
Food
Irradiation: Get informed on what's happening
to your food.
Subsidies:
The government is the conduit of the people. Learn
how they are squandering your money so you can tell
your representatives what's what.
Local
Agriculture: At the heart of what PG does,
localizing food production can have incalculable repercussions
on the waste generated by humanity.
Buying
Power: Everyone has it, they just may not
realize it.
Fair
Trade: That's "fair", not "free".
Gleaning:
Odds are you're a gleaner and you didn't even know
it.
Urban
Agriculture: More and more people are leaving
the city for the suburbs. Why not replace them with
the fields that we are developing to accommodate us?
Indoor
Environments: Be informed on how to make your
living environment safe for you and your family.
What
You Can Do: We hope to develop this section
as we go as a resource for things, events, practices
we can all be involved in to make our world a more
reasonable, healthy, and sensible place. Let us know
what we can do.
